There is a long history not only in this country but in others as well where the community mind has wrecked great havoc on people regardless of what a person may or may not have done When people are categorized all identity is lost for all the individuals and thus the making of the crowd mentality that is swayed this way or that way takes effect, and whatever punishments or public stigma is applied to the category is applied to all. When this is done, it can and often does take decades to correct the wrongs heaped upon people. Practically no one wants to say they are or were wrong in a public way, thus the obstinate collective mind becomes very difficult to penetrate and to persuade differently. Changes to correct wrongs are slow. It is not only a matter of education, but is a matter of keeping the issues before the collective communities until the power of persuasion begins to produce converts. Irrationality is a major factor of the crowd or group mentality especially when the mentality of the crowd or group or community is manipulated by those who have motives not so pure and rational empathy is discarded as something dirty. We who dislike unjust laws regardless of the crimes committed or not committed have a rough way to go, but in order for change to take effect, the bravery of the few, which is generally the case, must continue in-spite of oppositions to resist the corrections or eliminations of wrongs perpetrated by the powers that are.
