I agree with everyone. to clear up what i said earlier in regards to megans comment, there is always a case where surgery like that is okay, but not most of the time, thats why its considered "last resort".

"Korsica's father and two brothers are trim, but her mother said Korsica has a slow metabolism. Korsica also has a weakness for fried chicken, barbecued ribs, macaroni and cheese, buttered popcorn and chocolate milk. And, she watches too much television.

Before her surgery, Korsica would lie in bed after dinner and watch TV while munching on cookies and potato chips. In summer, she would watch all day long.

'I can't live without TV,' she said."

Well, there's the problem right there. Slow metabolism isn't an excuse for general laziness and overeating. It seems like this whole stomach stapling thing is just an easy way out of committing yourself to a healthy lifestpyle. Being fat is not wrong. I just think if someone has a problem with it, they should truly get themselves out of what they put themselves into. Because physically fixing the problem is not fixing anything that will last mentally.

What a depressing article.

since he is saying that getting the surgery is socially exceptable now i bet you there is a big portion of obese people who just eat what they want and not take care of their body because they know they can just go out and get the surgery.

Obese adolescents often suffer from depression and low self- esteem and are more likely than obese adults to be ridiculed. "They are scarred by psychological and mental abuse,"
"No shit." Says Chris De La Rosa.

I'm not going to say such surgery isn't warranted in some cases, but when the person who holds the world record for weight ALSO holds the world record for weight LOSS, you begin to wonder how some people can say that they 'can't' lose the weight...on some level YES it IS YOUR FAULT...*grumble*
