Stomach Stapling

It seems to me that there’s something really wrong if it’s socially acceptable to get your stomach stapled. People who display a complete lack of willpower and control should be socially ostracized, so that they can be encouraged to gain back that willpower through embarrassment.
Lets face it; if morbidly obese people were treated like black people were treated in the south in the 1800′s, there would be a LOT less of them. Notice I’m not saying we should treat ANYONE like black people were treated, but I think a higher degree of social reinforcement is necessary. Fatasses should NOT be allowed to stay that way, for their own health, and the benefit of the society; just in the same way that extreme addicts (legal or illegal drugs) should not be allowed to stay that way. Health has become a societal problem lately, due to the lack of the masses to care for themselves.
don’t you think you are being hypocritical? you’re attacking fat people for their views on obesity.
but i agree that people need to pay attention to their health more… the government was going to put a law on how many big macs one could consume per week or something like that. but i don’t condone that being a law. it should be fucking common sense that you don’t eat shit like that.
The big problem is that people are just lazy. at 14 years of age you should not resort to very dangerous and last resort surgery!!! its not like being fat is a desease like this country makes it out to be. I think there is a good reason fat people are made fun of, it is unhealthy and nobody wants to be fat. If you cannot control your diet then you will become over weight, simple as that. diets dont work if you secretly hoard candy in your room, or if you go to coldstone and get the “sinless sweet cream”, ie: “healthy ice cream”, but then put brownies, candy, and hot fudge on it. I see it every day and it makes me want to vomit. I feel morally wrong selling fat people ice cream, but I have to because it is my job. It is time people stop TREATING fatness like you would treat a cold, and go to the source. treating symptons does not work as we can all see due to the rising persentage of the obease.
To comment on treating fat people like black people: I dont even think you can compare the two, because unlike african americans, there is a lagitimate reason fat people are made fun of. You cannot argue that there is nothing wrong or unhealthy about being fat. I cannot lie to myself by saying there is nothing wrong with not being able to walk in a grocry store and having to take a motorized cart. or that being fat is not genetically passed down. or that being fat doesnt diabetes and greater risk of heart attack.
I think a better comparison was between fat people and drug addicts. you can be a good person, but you just have a problem with sef control, and like drugs, I think being fat should be socially unacceptable in the same way.
If you read this and are angry at my lack of compassion, ask yourself, would have sex with somebody over 200 pounds if you are a girl, and even as low as 160 pounds if you are a guy?? Im willing to bet not. would you be willing to bet a fat person would be more capible IN GENERAL of any physical activity? I know these are stereotypes but with nearly 40% of people gaining back their weight after getting their stomach’s stapled I think im allowed to make some generalizations! If you try and tell me that there is nothing wrong or unusual about gaining 100 pounds when you are only able to eat less than a cup of food at a time I will laugh at you.
forgive the spelling errors.
I second that motion. They should all be locked up and fed small rations of rice and only slim fast to drink. they can work in the fields picking cotton, and after their long day at work, they can go home and sing the blues till the sun comes up. Dumb fat niggers.
question: isn’t there some people who cannot help but be obese because of digestive problems? if so, do you think it is okay for them to have the surgery?
Obese adolescents often suffer from depression and low self- esteem and are more likely than obese adults to be ridiculed. “They are scarred by psychological and mental abuse,”
“No shit.” Says Chris De La Rosa.
I’m not going to say such surgery isn’t warranted in some cases, but when the person who holds the world record for weight ALSO holds the world record for weight LOSS, you begin to wonder how some people can say that they ‘can’t’ lose the weight…on some level YES it IS YOUR FAULT…*grumble*
it sucks that some adolescents are obese and suffer because of their parents’ habits and teachings. as i hear in Sociology 201, “we are products of our society”
yeah, truth for sure…and they blame it on GENETICS in that instance. It’s pretty sad. No it’s NOT always genetics…its just that your kids eat like YOU DO… i.e. WAY TO FUCKING MUCH!!
since he is saying that getting the surgery is socially exceptable now i bet you there is a big portion of obese people who just eat what they want and not take care of their body because they know they can just go out and get the surgery.
yeah, no kidding, huh. Did you check out the link to that article? It has this graph that shows how much stomach stapling has been done…it’s insane how many are being done now compared to a few years ago…I blame Al Roker.
“Korsica’s father and two brothers are trim, but her mother said Korsica has a slow metabolism. Korsica also has a weakness for fried chicken, barbecued ribs, macaroni and cheese, buttered popcorn and chocolate milk. And, she watches too much television.
Before her surgery, Korsica would lie in bed after dinner and watch TV while munching on cookies and potato chips. In summer, she would watch all day long.
‘I can’t live without TV,’ she said.”
Well, there’s the problem right there. Slow metabolism isn’t an excuse for general laziness and overeating. It seems like this whole stomach stapling thing is just an easy way out of committing yourself to a healthy lifestpyle. Being fat is not wrong. I just think if someone has a problem with it, they should truly get themselves out of what they put themselves into. Because physically fixing the problem is not fixing anything that will last mentally.
What a depressing article.
haha i know, we should get a patition to get his stomach un-stapled
HEAR HEAR!
I agree with everyone. to clear up what i said earlier in regards to megans comment, there is always a case where surgery like that is okay, but not most of the time, thats why its considered “last resort”.
